VCE VET Dance

VCE VET Dance is a nationally recognised qualification that allows Year 10, 11, and 12 students to gain Certificate II in Dance with elements of Certificate III in Dance whilst completing their VCE. There are no prerequisites to enrol, although previous dance experience is beneficial. It's a pre-vocational course that prepares you for tertiary training or a career as a dancer, dance teacher, or choreographer, and the qualification is recognised throughout Australia.

Absolutely! VCE VET Dance is a scored subject that contributes to your ATAR. The score is made up of 50% from two solo performances (one in each of your chosen dance styles) and 50% from school-assessed coursework. This means your passion for dance can actively boost your university entrance score whilst you gain a nationally recognised qualification.

VCE VET Dance adds only 2 hours per week to your timetable beyond your regular technique training. The course is delivered over two years part-time (with an optional third year available), ranging from 320 to 400 hours total depending on which dance styles you choose. Your existing dance classes at Mathis Dance Studios count towards the qualification, meaning the additional commitment is minimal whilst the benefits are substantial.

No problem at all! If your school doesn't offer VCE VET Dance, you can still participate through Mathis Dance Studios. As long as you're attending at least one hour of technical training per week in each of your chosen dance styles, you're already halfway there. Classes are held after school for 2 hours to cover the VCE-specific coursework, while your technique training continues with your regular classes.

You can choose two dance styles from Jazz, Contemporary, Ballet, Tap, Street Dance/Hip Hop, or Lyrical. Yes, your current technique classes count! If you're already training at Mathis Dance Studios, we work with your existing training schedule to ensure your regular classes contribute directly to achieving your qualification. You won't need to duplicate your training. We recognise what you're already doing.

VCE VET Dance opens numerous pathways including further study (Certificate IV or Diploma in Dance, Bachelor degrees in Dance, Music Theatre, or Creative Arts), professional performance careers (dancer, choreographer, musical theatre performer), teaching roles (dance teacher, community dance worker), allied health pathways (physiotherapy, Pilates, yoga instruction), and arts management (dance studio ownership). 

Past students have used their VCE VET Dance experience to gain entry to prestigious institutions including Harvard University and have gone on to perform in productions like Hamilton and Wicked.
